Understanding How We Use Faux Flowers for Your Wedding

We love fresh flowers, and so do all of the couples we work with. But as wedding and event florists deeply rooted in sustainable practices, we recognize that sometimes, using faux flowers is better for us, our clients, and even the planet! In this blog, we want to debunk some myths around using faux flowers and outline exactly how, why, and where we use them when designing our signature jaw-dropping floral installations.

Common Misconceptions about Using Faux Flowers

Faux Flowers are Too Expensive

Believe it or not, one of the most common hesitations couples have around faux flowers is believing that they are too expensive. But really, renting faux florals is often more affordable than investing in entirely fresh blooms! Take a ranunculus, for example. These popular, many-petaled blooms cost your florist around $17 per single stem. Meanwhile, a faux ranunculus costs around $5. If you’re planning a large installation around these kinds of flowers, using faux flowers will be far more cost-effective.

Faux Flowers Will Look Too Fake

Whenever we mention using faux flowers, this comment is sure to come up. And honestly, we get it! Most faux flowers do look fake. And even though we only use high-quality, hyperrealistic silk stems, the moment you touch them or lean in to smell them, the jig is up. This is why we only ever use faux flowers in large arrangements that will be enjoyed from a distance, like ceremony arches or hanging installations. From that distance, none of your guests will know the difference!

How We Realistically Use Faux Flowers in Your Wedding

When we use faux flowers, we’re not replacing fresh blooms; we’re complementing them. We only use faux flowers in designs that will be viewed from afar or when using fresh blooms simply isn’t maintainable due to heat and hydration. Think about a tented wedding in peak summer. All the heat will rise to the top of the tent, where your gorgeous, eye-catching installation hangs. In that kind of heat, fresh blooms will expire long before the night is over.

This is primarily where we use faux flowers! When mixed with real greenery and placed with artistic intention, no one can tell that the blooms are fake. Plus, you will be getting a more affordable rental cost for a design that will last longer, versus a more expensive rate for flowers that will droop before the end of the event.

Artistic, Sustainable Design with Fresh and Faux Flowers

The beauty really is in the balance. Fresh blooms take center stage with centerpieces, aisle arrangements, bouquets, and any other designs that guests will interact with. But faux flowers come in handy for large installations that will be viewed from a distance and exposed to high temperatures. And if you’re still on the fence about using faux blooms, you can preview options from florists to see which stems make the most sense with your palette and design.
