Before we were luxury wedding florists, we were artists. So when Michelle and Akshay came to us with an out-of-the-box vision for their multicultural wedding weekend at French’s Point, we were all ears. Their vision evolved slowly as other design details came into focus, but it was clear from the start that this wedding would be full of color. We incorporated some unexpected elements to create a truly one-of-a-kind design for this incredible couple! 

The Colorful, Maximalist Vision 

The bride, Michelle, owns a textile company and designed all of the linens for this celebration herself. It was important for the colors to work together, so we spent many hours ahead of this wedding developing a palette that would match the bride’s unique style. Michelle wanted the florals to be architectural and abstract, working alongside her linens to create a maximalist look. 

Texture was an important piece of the design process. We combined fresh blooms with paper flower installations, creating a unique wonderland feeling for the sangeet, ceremony, and reception. Their ceremony felt like a maximalist floral Eden with bold colors, lush greenery, and lots of movement. To keep the entire event feeling cohesive, we ensured there were pops of pale blue, vibrant pink, and purple in every arrangement. 

Reordering the Wedding Weekend Due to Weather 

Part of being a wedding florist is understanding that weather rarely follows our plans. Rain was forecasted for the wedding day. But the night before, which was reserved for the rehearsal dinner and sangeet, was perfectly clear. Michelle desperately wanted an outdoor ceremony, so we did something we’ve never done before. We rearranged the order of the wedding weekend, ensuring the bride could have the beautiful, outdoor wedding ceremony she had been dreaming of. 

Day 1: Ceremony & Sangeet 

We spent the earlier part of the day setting up the Sangeet. We leaned into the traditional colors, stringing red and yellow marigolds and paper lanterns over the tables and dance floor. For the tablescapes, we leaned into a moodier palette, embracing deep maroon and burnt orange. We created a mossy centerpiece and added strawberries and grapes to the arrangements. 

Guests were already gathered in the area for the celebrations, so we quickly spread the word that the ceremony would be happening a day sooner, in between portions of the Sangeet.

They started the day in their sangeet attire. Akshay rode in on a white horse while guests danced and clapped, eventually joining Michelle on the patio. Soon after, Michelle and Akshay changed into a western outfit. While they were getting ready, we set up the lavish altar installation and placed the aisle arrangements. Michelle wore a stunning applique gown while Akshay wore a classic black tuxedo. 

After the ceremony on the lawn, they resumed the Sangeet. Guests gathered back on the patio for a lobster dinner, speeches, choreographed dances, and an open dance floor. The night ended with fireworks over the lake. 

Day 2: Cocktail Hour, Portraits & Reception 

The following day, Michelle and Akshay donned their western outfits again for portraits with the bridal party and family. The bridesmaids wore colorful satin gowns that complemented the bold palette of the event. Guests enjoyed a relaxed cocktail hour inside the Retreat House before moving to the large sailcloth tent for the reception. 

Michelle’s design skills, partnered with our bold floral installations, created a one-of-a-kind reception space. The bride changed into a blue tulle ball gown for the reception, embodying the fun, colorful, maximalist vision. Large paper flowers greeted guests and served as eye-catching focal points around the tent. We seamlessly repurposed blooms from the ceremony, ensuring everything felt cohesive and intentional across events.
