Our favorite part of being luxury wedding florists is designing arrangements that match each couple’s vision and personality. Jasmine and Christopher were married at the Hay-Adams Hotel, a beautiful, sophisticated 5-star hotel in the heart of Washington, D.C. To complement the timeless elegance of their venue, the couple and their planner decided on a classic black and white color palette. Their vision was a sophisticated yet modern D.C. wedding!
While some may think a limited color palette will lead to uninteresting floral design, we disagree! Sticking with all-white florals allowed us to embrace texture, shape, and movement in a way that felt interesting without being obtrusive. We started by procuring ribbed vases that refracted candlelight, creating a soft glow during the ceremony and reception. From there, we built a menu of classic and sophisticated blooms in a subtle, contemporary design.
Instead of using traditional, round-bloomed baby’s breath, we opted for star-shaped gypsophila to create that airy, soft feeling. We added textures from nerine lilies, delphinium, and dendrobium orchids. For the focal blooms atop each reception table, we used chrysanthemums, roses, hydrangeas, and carnations. We created these elevated arrangements using our signature foam-free method, which you can learn about in our Table Flowers Guide! We started with a 9-inch plastic bowl, which we filled with a plastic mesh pillow and placed in a tall ribbed vase. These raised arrangements created a wow-factor for guests entering the Hay-Adams Hotel for the reception, without impeding the guests’ ability to talk during dinner!
The Hay-Adams Hotel is stunning inside and out. Yet, like many DC hotels, it offers some unique logistical challenges. Luckily, we have years of experience working with historic and complicated venues! We came prepared. Using the carting method and a refrigerated truck with a lift-gate, we were able to work around these complications and give Jasmine and Christopher the floral designs of their dreams.
During your wedding, the last thing you want to worry about is the logistics of setting up your wedding venue. We made sure to avoid stressing out the bride, and she later thanked us, saying, “I wanted to reach out and express our gratitude for your flexibility, professionalism, and expertise throughout the wedding planning process and day of execution. Your dedication to accommodating the chaos of the day did not go unnoticed! Many of our guests made a point of commenting on the floral design, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience.”
Whatever vision you have for your wedding day, we are dedicated to creating something beautiful, unique, and sustainable. Jasmine and Christopher’s wedding at the Hay-Adams Hotel gave us a chance to stretch ourselves creatively, incorporating all-white modern touches to a gorgeous historic space. If you are planning a wedding in New England or elsewhere and want stunning floral installations that are sustainable and completely foam-free, we would love to hear from you!
