As luxury wedding florists, we love nothing more than returning to our favorite venues to witness another incredible love story. This time, we were lucky enough to return to French’s Point, a breathtaking coastal estate in Maine. Brett and Hailey found us through a previous wedding we designed there! Traveling from Texas, Brett and Hailey’s wedding at French’s Point was the perfect combination of southern charm and coastal New England elegance.
It was a fun and unique challenge to fuse the couple’s southern roots with a traditionally New England wedding. We ended up with an absolutely gorgeous design featuring blue and white hydrangeas. With a nod to opulent Texas weddings, we covered the reception tables in hydrangeas, creating the illusion that they flowed off the long tables to pool on the floor.
The centerpieces for the round tables went through a few variations. The original stands were glass, but the wind at French’s Point can be strong. To counter this, we switched to metal bases weighed down with cinderblocks. Then, we covered the cinderblocks with a floral wreath in four semi-circle vessels.
Hydrangeas are notoriously sensitive. We designed the elevated centerpieces completely in water with 4” deep bowls atop the metal stands. We modified an existing Casbah table from our supply of accent decor by having a local welder add a 3-inch rim to the top. All of the centerpiece techniques we used for Hailey and Brett’s wedding are available in our Table Flowers Guide!
Everything about Hailey and Brett’s wedding was perfectly on theme. From the bridesmaids’ matching pin-stripe pajamas to their silk gowns, the entire wedding was Hailey’s “something blue!” Moments after the ceremony began, a thunderstorm rolled in with no warning. The couple and guests ran to the reception tent for cover, and Hailey and Brett we married on the dance floor!
The sky cleared up just long enough for us to grab the flowers and bring them beneath the tent, setting the tone for the rest of the reception. We were so happy we listened to our gut and reinforced the centerpieces! We’ve had years of experience on the unpredictable New England coastline, and we’ve learned to prepare for the unexpected. Happily, the rain didn’t dampen the guests’ joy in the slightest. Hailey and Brett had a beautiful wedding from start to finish, and we were honored to play a part in their design!
